After a short while Astra stopped sobbing and managed to compose herself. Without thinking, she attempted to wipe her tears away from her cheek, but her chain prevented her hand from reaching anywhere near her face. "I'm sorry for my display of weakness, Lord Fred," she said. "It was most unfitting for a warrior like myself."

"Think nothing of it, Princess. And please call me simply 'Fred'. This is hardly the time for formality."

"Indeed. And by the same token please call me 'Astra'."

They talked for a while about themselves and life in their respective countries, as getting to know one another better helped to take their minds off their shared predicament. But eventually:

Fred said: "I suppose we ought to try to come up with some sort of plan for how we might escape, though I confess I struggle to see what it could be."
They fell into silence.
A Dragazon came to check up on them and to bring them some bread and water. Unable to use their hands, eating and drinking posed something of a challenge.
