Feeding Time in the Caves

A servant carried a basket of bread and a gourd of water. Then Fred noticed a gleam behind this servant. A second servant in the darkness held a knife. The food bearer approached Fred, and said, "It is time to eat and drink. Are you ready?"

Fred replied, "I am. Are you going to unshackle my hands for a short time so that I can eat and drink on my own? That would save you some trouble."

The food bearer said

1. "That is how we are going to do it. And don't try to escape. It will just make things harder for you."
2. "Nice try, but no. I am going to cut up the bread and feed it to you piece by piece.'
