Lessing School for Girls

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 117434

Hannah's eyes were wide, and she was not comforted, but she nodded. Uncle Belby never steered her wrong; he loved her and Mummy and wanted what was best for them.

So, from then on, Hannah accepted, even invited mockery. She played less with the village children, but always accepted when they asked her to, and never responded to their jabs. She still wept when she came home, but did so more quietly. Muriel thought she was happier.

Years passed, and she grew slowly, trying to be as ladylike as possible. She learned from her mother how to sew and cook, and eventually stopped playing with the village boys, knowing their roughhousing was unbecoming of a young girl.

For her tenth birthday, she received another gift from Belboz: he offered to pay for her to go to a prestigious finishing school for young girls. There, she would learn a great many skills, and all her needs would be taken care of, so Muriel would be able to spend more time trying to bring in coin. Muriel was loath to send her daughter away, but she accepted the gift, knowing the benefits would make it worth it.

Hannah was sent off to the Lessing School for Girls in the Allarian countryside. Her bunkmate was a girl named Jordana O'Farrell, daughter of Sir Ricardo O'Farrell of Allaria. Though Hannah was still very timid and reserved, they became fast friends.

They learned many skills appropriate for a lady to know, such as etiquette, dancing, and embroidery. During the holidays, they returned home. It was an agreeable enough arrangement that went on for many years.

Meanwhile, Belboz kept sending in money and periodically checking in on Hannah, in satisfaction and mild amusement. She was learning to be a proper lady, and was extremely conscientious about it. She could hardly have been farther from the knight that Fred had once been.

  1. At the end of the year, she went home with Jordana, as Muriel had fallen on very hard times and was unable to care for her for right now.
  2. Hannah was thirteen when she suddenly ran away.
  3. Hannah graduated at sixteen and immediately began to receive upper-class suitors.
