Upon meeting Sir Ricardo, something tickled at the back of Hannah's mind, but she pushed it aside, as she did with many of her feelings and intuitions, and curtsied deeply. "Hannah of Littleton, sir. Very pleased to meet you, and exceedingly grateful to be welcomed into your home." Sir Ricardo smiled. "And welcomed you are, as any friend of Jordana's would be, my dear. Won't you come in?" Jordana showed her around the manor, and everywhere she looked, Hannah became deeply confused at a deep sense of familiarity. At the end of the tour the family convened for dinner in their grand dining room, filled with sweet smells and violin music. All together the family was comprised of Jordana, Sir Rick, his wife Lady Helena, Jordana's fourteen-year-old brother Ivo, and her seven-year-old brother, Frederigo. Something was screaming in Hannah's mind now, but she pushed it down, more roughly than before, and smiled, saying, "How very pleased I am to meet you all, and what a lovely home you have." The O'Farrells were lovely conversationalists, but Hannah was a bit out of it, and there came a moment when the silence began to feel a little awkward to her. Not wanting, or indeed able, to be an ungracious guest, Hannah filled it with the first comment that sprang to mind: "Frederigo, what a nice name. It sounds familiar..." She blinked, startled and bewildered by her own words. Sir Ricardo nodded. "Yes, he is named after my dear friend, Sir Frederigo D'Honaire, among the most honorable knights in the realm. Sadly it is verging on one decade since he vanished without a trace after being sent on a quest to defeat the dragon. It is fortunate that said dragon has been rather silent for most of that time, but either way, it is overwhelmingly likely that Fred perished for his kingdom. An honorable end, but I wish I knew how it happened." He solemnly raised his glass. "To Sir Fred." "To Sir Fred," they all agreed in unison, including Hannah, though her own words felt as hollow as an old bone. Why did this story—this name—this man—mean so much to her? What was happening?
