Rick breathed out, relieved that it seemed to have worked, but immediately turned his attention back to Freda, who, for her part, was still not quite convinced this was even a good thing. She had been struggling to accept that she would remain a cow for the rest of her life, and honestly, life in Vycynth's enclosure was rather agreeable for an ordinary cow. What, exactly, could she hope would improve with this change?

"Freda?" said Rick gently, approaching her. "Can you tell me how this happened to you?"

"Magic wardrobe," she supplied fairly readily. "I don't know who, or why. But it's... too deep."

"What?"

"Too deep..." She strained to explain. "Too deep, in me. The enchantment is too powerful. I can't turn back. It's impossible."

Rick's spirits plummeted. "How do you know?"

"Vycynth told me. And I can feel it. I'm just a cow. I should probably just go back, really."

"No," said Rick, determined. "Even if you are a cow now, you are still my friend, and I will take care of you.

  1. We're going back to Allaria to have Arahim take a look at you. Maybe Vycynth was wrong."
  2. I'll bring you to my father's manor. My family will make sure you have a comfortable life on one of our farms."
