Freda protested a bit more, but Rick would hear none of it, and eventually she assented. And so they began to travel. The journey would take them a few weeks even in the best of conditions, but a dairy cow was not suited to travel, and things were very slow going. Over many days of conversation, Rick came to understand Freda's mindset, and how very limited her intelligence really was. Fred really had been turned into a cow, through and through--in every way but his memory. At least those remained, but Rick was saddened every moment by the state his once brave and noble friend had been subjected to. Freda supposed she was glad to see Rick again, but she hated everything else about the situation. She hated travel, and she began to miss Vycynth's enclosure, simply because of how simple it was there. If Fred had been in his right mind, he might have also been mortified at the idea that so many of those he once knew, be them superiors, peers, and subordinates, would see him in this state, but as it was, this thought never quite occurred to Freda. Rick was a noble and a knight, and had never milked a cow before, and the need to do so did not occur to him until Freda began to complain of discomfort late on the first day of travel. From then on he milked her, with little deftness, each day, but the milk was wasted; he would not think of drinking it. It was too strange. Freda, of course, was unbothered. The journey was, of course, not a fast one, but it was not a perfectly smooth one either. They faced several delays and inconveniences related to weather, running low on rations, and other mundane problems.
