"Fear not, my dear," said Tihena, and instantly all her worries dissipated. Tihena went on, "Here is what I mean:

  1. you and this island are under my protection. Nothing will ever tear you away from it and you will not die until you are old and frail."
  2. you will become one with this island forever. I want you to travel to the pool at the heart of the island and wait there, and you will see what I mean."
  3. I am entering you into a cycle of reincarnation. You will never, ever leave this island, always coming back as a bird or a crab or another villager, and so on."
