Thus began a very, very long and involved process. Jane told the women they could stay here as long as they wanted, but they'd have to earn their keep. So she taught them all to knit, crochet, and embroider--not to mention cook and clean. That alone was quite a few weeks. Each woman was more or less in charge of her own funds--they'd give what they made to Jane (after making clothes for themselves, of course), and Jane would sell it all and give most of the profit back to them individually. Marigold and Hannah, with their patient natures, were easily the best knitters of all of them, and always ended up with the most money. They were still completely unclear on who they really were and how they'd come to be here, but Jane had been more than generous with them, giving them beds to sleep in and a means to make some money of their own, so they regarded her with the utmost respect and gratitude. And in the meantime, they continued to spend every idle moment thinking about Jane's brothers, and when they visited--those were the times they were happiest. Also in the meantime, Jane was hard at work getting to know each of them, finding where their characters were lacking, and doing her best to concoct potions that would make up for these deficiencies, which she served them in their dinner. For example, one of the earlier ones was to level Katrina's mood. She was always ready to have a fight. Jane's potion calmed her down considerably. Ermentrude also needed a bit of a self-esteem boost, so Jane gave her a muted version of an egoism potion she'd learned to make some time ago. It went on. If the effects of a potion were too strong and caused problems in the opposite direction, Jane would have to deal with that too. Once their personalities were a bit more balanced, she started working on giving them the same interests as her brothers. As you might imagine, this whole process took years. Were there any hiccups along the way?
