Not a great first impression there, bud

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 115750

What Angela experienced on hearing this could best be described as blank shock. She blinked twice, and finally said, "What?"

"You heard me," he said, standing up. "Quickly, we must go!"

He spoke urgently, almost frantically, but she didn't budge an inch. "What did you call me?"

"Fred! I called you Fred, yes, I know who you really are, and I'll explain how if you come with me!"

"I can't walk out without telling Mel and Joe," she said, confused. "We haven't even paid yet."

"Oh for the love of--" and he leaned forward and placed a hand against her forehead, quickly mumbling a few words she didn't understand. She felt some switch flipping in her head, but didn't know what until he said, "Now, get up, and come with me" and her body automatically complied.

He pulled her along by the hand straight out the front door, launching right into it: "My true name is Belboz, and I am an Allarian sorcerer. It is your destiny to defeat the dragon but some force has trapped you in this body and this world. Yesterday I came through a portal that had just opened to connect this world to our own, and it should still be there, but if we miss it, the next one won't appear at least for several months, and time is of the essence. People are dying every day at the claws of the dragon. You must fulfill your destiny."

Angela's head was spinning. "There's... there's a way to go back?" she asked faintly.

"Portals between worlds open and close naturally. There are patterns, studied by advanced sorcerers. It was sheer luck that one was about to open when I found out you had been taken. So I traveled to the site, hopped through, and magicked your friend to fall in love with me so I could meet you and make sure it was really you. Now, my powers are much more limited in this world, but--"

At this Angela would have stopped in her tracks, but her feet were still moving against her will. "You cast a love spell on Mel?" she cried in outrage.

They had reached Bel's car now, and he pushed her into the shotgun seat and got into the driver's seat himself. Starting the engine, he said, "Yeah?"

"How could you?" she demanded, itching to slap him.

He glanced over at her. "Why do you care, Lord Fred?"

"It's Angela," she said coldly. "And you manipulated my best friend for your own selfish needs--"

"Selfish?" Belboz exclaimed, flabbergasted. "Fred, the lives of everyone in our realm are at stake!"

"Your realm, you mean."

By now it was clear to the sorcerer that beyond having been changed in body and given an additional set of memories, something else had been done to Fred. Though he was running low on magical energy, he waved a hand, putting Fred into a deep sleep, and started driving towards the site of the portal as fast as he could.

Half an hour later he arrived at the campsite, and took up the small woman into his arms to go the rest of the way on foot. The portal had opened in the middle of the woods. He arrived at the site after another forty-five minutes of hiking, and his arms, by this time, were exhausted.

  1. But the portal had closed. They were too late, and would remain trapped in this world until another portal opened.
  2. The portal was still active, but when he tried to carry Fred through, it seemed it would not accept her. Some kind of magical anchor must be keeping her here.
  3. The portal was still active, but it began to close around them as Belboz carried Fred through. They arrived in Allaria, but the closing portal had left a mark on both of them.
  4. The portal was still active, but it was so close to closing that Belboz knew it would only remain stable long enough for one person to pass through. So he threw the sleeping Fred in and watched sadly as the portal vanished before him.
  5. The portal was still active, and Belboz managed to carry Fred through.
