Muddled Remembrance

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 11515

"Hello, Stacy. I don't suppose that you've changed your mind?"

It was a woman's voice on the other end, with a vague but noticeable hint of an Eastern European accent.

"What do you mean?"

"Stacy, have you forgotten again?"

"No, but do refresh my memory. You work for the professor, don't you?"

Stacy figured it was an easy enough bluff to make. However, the woman saw through it.

"Oh, dear, you have forgotten again. No, I don't work for the professor. In fact, I had offered to let you stay at my place so he couldn't get to you. He must have, though, if you've lost your memory again."

"What do you know about me? You have to tell me?"

"Stacy, love, there's no time for that. We've been through a lot together, and though you can't remember any of it, you have to trust me on this. Get out. Take anything with you that you don't want them to confiscate, but come to my apartment. You'll be safe there."

"But..."

"This is urgent...time is of the essence..."

Though she had no reason to believe this woman, Stacy had a curious notion that she probably should as she took down the directions to the woman's apartment and hung up.

Hastily, Stacy gathered up her journal and the research material she had accumulated. She set her computer to dump all of the files she had looked up to her printer and waited on it to finish. Thankfully enough, though, she had a laser printer and thus it went quickly. Having gathered everything, she jammed it all into a backpack she found and headed out.

The woman's apartment was only a block from her own, and before long she was riding the elevator up to the loft she had been directed to. Reaching the desired floor, she walked over to the specified door and knocked hesitantly. Almost immediately the door was opened by a woman about her age. The woman was roughly 5'4", and good looking. She was dressed in ripped jeans and a tube top, with a ring in her nose and strawberry blonde hair down to her waist. She smiled when she saw Stacy and pulled her in, hugging her eagerly.

"Oh, it's so good to see you safe."

"But...but I still don't know who you are..."

"Damn...you have forgotten a lot...I'm Natalia, and I dearly hope we'll be able to get you to remember how special you are to me, but there's time for that later. I made up the guest bedroom for you..."

The following morning.

An older man and a young woman with waist length strawberry blonde hair sit at a table at an outdoor cafe. The older man seems agitated. The woman speaks, her voice having a hint of an Eastern European accent.

"Well, aren't you going to ask why I brought you here?

"I was considering it..."

"Well, the reason is quite simple, Professor. You've lost her."

"What? How?"

"I've poached her out from under you, put her where you can't reach her, and I'll be the one who will be with her when the full moon rises..."

Stacy awoke the next day at noon, which surprised her, but only a little. She probably had lost a large amount of sleep. At any rate, she felt refreshed. A note was laid on a chair for her, reading "Went out to get some groceries. Back around 1. --Nat". She got up and put on some clothing that was already laid out for her, and went to look about the apartment.

  1. Stacy wandered into the kitchen to get something to eat.
  2. Stacy went to watch some television.
  3. Stacy explored the rooms, trying to find some clues.
