Is "The Never Ending Quest" Sexist Trash?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 111800

"Look!" you say to the clerk, pointing at the comic book. "I look just like the woman on the cover."

"So you do. I'm afraid I don't know anything about that character. The only major female character that I can remember was a warrior princess called Astra. But that's not her. She had flaming red hair, and seemed to spend most of the time naked."

"So the series is just sexist trash, then?"

"Not all of it. But, at least when I was still reading it, the quality was very variable. That may be partly because no two consecutive issues were ever written by the same person."

"How odd. But it's not just that the character on the cover looks like me. She's in a comic store that looks very like this one. And though it's too small to see clearly, the comic book that she's holding could be this one."

"That is weird. Perhaps if you buy it and read it, you'll find out what is going to happen to you in the future."

The clerk's grin indicates that he is joking. But you are taking the idea seriously.

  1. In the pocket of your faded and ripped jeans you discover a twenty dollar bill. You use it to buy the comic.
  2. You don't have any money. You ask the clerk if he would mind your reading the comic if you don't take it out of the store and return it to the rack when you've finished.
  3. You flip through the pages of the comic, hoping that the clerk won't mind.
  4. You realise that there's a later issue in the rack next to where 111702 was till you removed it. It's 111800. You wonder what happened to the intervening issues, especially since the cover of 111800 shows a scene very like that on the cover of 11702.
