As if things haven't been stressful enough, right? Now, I have this American bird, her name is Stacy Jones, or so she claims, walking around with me, and she's bloody mad. It's at this point that any other bloke would ask her if she had just seen a ghost. Just thirty seconds ago, she looked me in the eye and said she just found her mum dead on the subway platform. So, she abandoned her mum and just walked the fuck away. I swear, though, Stacy's plight isn't the bloodiest crazy thing I've been through since I got to New York. And as much as she's going through right now, I can't really just tell her to piss off, and her life's endangered if she keeps tagging along with me...
Edgar, with Stacy following him, finally makes it back to the hotel he had booked following his abrupt departure from the airport [12656]. There doesn't seem to be anyone at the front desk right now, Edgar notices, which he finds strange, but he doesn't say anything about it. He and Stacy get in the elevator and head up several floors.
"Edgar, I apologize," Stacy finally says. "I didn't mean to dump all of my problems on you earlier..." Edgar looks towards Stacy, who still has a tear running down her face but still manages a smile. They quietly enter Edgar's room. Edgar flops down on the bed, while Stacy takes the armchair across the room for herself. A long, awkward silence follows.
Elsewhere in Manhattan, private detective John Thessamar stalks the streets. Acting on a tip from some locally based FBI agents, he is headed in the direction of a certain church that Edgar had just visited earlier in the day...
