And so it is that Charlie finally secures what he wanted: a sweet companion who will love and take care of him. Fred is gone, effectively dormant in that little vial, and Charlie is never going to inform Susan of what she once was. She's so happy this way anyway. Now Susan appears as a particularly physically mature girl of about eighteen, and she will age very well, but age she does. She never stops doting on Charlie, and in the years that follow her transformation, she becomes an expert at cooking, cleaning, knitting, dancing, and gardening. Charlie is overwhelmingly happy to have her around. All the while she never suspects a thing, and Charlie, not caring to see her as anything else, begins to forget what she used to be.
