Fred's eyes widened. On the one hand, it was immensely comforting to hear that this man knew who she really was. On the other, she was filled with righteous fury at the part he had played in stripping her of her identity. The wizard went on, "I have briefly magicked the once-maiden—whose name was Loreena, but will soon be changed—to believe he is a rogue contracted to find me an experimental subject. A very powerful enchantment, but one which shall wear off soon enough. You see, it was just easier to send him to retrieve you, while I could stay here and continue to make preparations." Fred had so many questions, but it seemed that the wizard had even more explaining to do. "When the enchantment wears off, you shall both be permitted to meet openly. But soon after, your work will begin. I shall explain more exactly what you must do in due time, but for now I will only tell you to begin considering what your new name shall be. You must play your roles completely, you see. Oh, speaking of names, mine is Prasgoth." It would be so much easier to ask questions if she just had a voice. Fred cast her eyes around in frustration until they landed on a staff topped with some sort of crystal propped against the wall. She looked to Prasgoth, tapping her throat and pointing at the staff. "Ah," he said after a moment of squinting. "You are asking if I can restore your voice. Yes, I'm sorry about that; Belboz is... not one for temperance and... Well, I'll come out and say it: he is not a good man, and I still regret that we had to involve him at all, but he was the only one we could find on such short notice who could change your form with such ease. He also changed the maiden into a knight, and unfortunately took some unwelcome liberties with that process as well. Anyhow, to answer your question...
