Fred hung on for dear life as the knight pulled her to the shore. Progress was slow, but sure enough, he was closing the distance between them. After a few minutes of effort, Fred's arms were starting to get dangerously tired--she could only imagine how the knight was faring. Fortunately, just as she was beginning to wonder if she was going to make it, she made contact with solid land. The rescue not quite complete, the knight hauled her forward until her whole body was resting on the fresh mud of the shore. Her dress was immediately filthy, and her arms were shaking and practically useless for the time, but she was very much alive. She lay on the ground for several moments, gasping silently.
