The Never Ending Quest - Episode 109719

Due to something in the wording of the contract that she hadn't picked up on, Fred now found herself physically incapable of denying any request made by the witch. She spent three hours clearing natural debris from Narissa's property--backbreaking work, but she was never able to stop and rest for even a second. When she was finished, it was full dark and her muscles screamed for a respite--but she found herself automatically swimming straight back to Narissa.

The witch had fallen asleep, but woke up quickly when Fred entered the room, proving herself to be a light sleeper. The unfortunate mermaid floated in place with her arms at her sides and her mouth set in a straight line, waiting for Narissa to speak.

The octopus woman rubbed her eyes, yawning, and finally asked, "What did you think of the work?"

"It could have been worse," Fred said hesitantly, "but I would have appreciated the choice to do it myself and the opportunity to take breaks. And to be honest, I am quite exhausted now."

  1. "You'll forgive me for that precaution; too many people fail to hold up their end of bargains. And I'm sorry the work was so hard, but my yard really did need to be cleaned. You may go sleep now."
  2. "Is that so? Hm. Perhaps I could enchant you to enjoy the work and be more physically able to endure long hours of it."
  3. "Yes, well, that's a shame." Narissa handed Fred a long scroll. "Complete as many tasks on this list as you can before sunrise."
