Fred pursed her lips, not bothering to correct the half-octopus on the nature of her "true form." It certainly wasn't a perfect solution, but it was far better than resigning herself to this fate. And at least it wouldn't quite split her day in perfect halves--on most days the sun was up longer than it was not. The part about coming back here every night might be a problem though. That was the only thing that made her wonder if it was worth it--she would be chained to this general area by her obligation to come back every night. But she'd just have to find a way to work around it--if she didn't accept, she'd still be chained to the ocean, and unable to even try to complete her quest.

"I would be so grateful if you could do this," she said.

"Wonderful!" Narissa produced a long glowing scroll out of thin water, which appeared to be a contract, and a silver quill pen. "Please sign at the bottom, dear. And remember that this contract is binding, so...

  1. when the sun sets, at the same moment you return to your mermaid form, you will be transported here."
  2. when the sun is setting, you will be compelled to travel to this location, no matter where you are."
  3. if you break it, you will immediately and permanently return to your mermaid form."
