Especially in the last few days, Hannah had felt more and more disenchanted with life here. Still not enough for everything around her to not make her laugh or smile or feel ludicrously happy, but... That happiness had been slowly but surely diminishing. And this morning was like suddenly snapping back to reality. Hannah stood up, and tottered. When had she gotten so... big? Not upwards, but outwards. Why had this never bothered her before? She slowly approached a puddle nearby, and peered into it, afraid of what she'd see. How could a person grow so fat on a diet of little more than berries and leaves? Well... She supposed she did eat more or less constantly. And they were filled with natural sugars. Maybe they were special fairy berries or something, she thought in disgust. And her hair—how could she have allowed it to grow so long? It was easily three inches. She wasn't sure if her neck was just fat or muscular from having towed it around. Tears were welling up in her eyes. What had she done to herself? How had she wasted so much time here? She didn't even know how much—it wasn't like there was a calendar around. There were only a few fairies left. Half a dozen, maybe. All at once, she resolved to get away. Right now. Before the last ones migrated—and brought her with them.
