"Well it's quite a common name," the Traveller replied. "You probably once met someone else called that."

"I guess so. I'll have the porter take your bags up to your rooms, sir. They are adjacent ones on the second floor: numbers 203 and 204."

"We don't have any bags."

The clerk was clearly startled. Seeing this, the Traveller said: "I will pay for our rooms tonight in advance if you like." Josh hoped that he had enough 1914 US currency on him.

1. The clerk says that that will not be necessary.
2. The Traveller duly pays for the two rooms.
3. The Traveller has miscalculated. The dollar bills that he had thought were valid currency in 1914 turn out to be from either an earlier or a later period.
