Stacy Standing On the Doorstep

Stacy looked at the closed door in front of her, summoning up the courage to enter. She felt slightly uneasy. Once her companions had outdistanced the pursuit, why had none of them gone back to look for her?

1. A large neon sign above the door read: "O'Reilly's Genuine Irish Pub." Some things never change, Stacy thought.
2. A small sign read: "Pohl and Kornbluth, Gladiators at Law." Not having been an SF fan, Stacy did not grasp the significance of this.
3. A sign read: "Dr J Stern, Neurosurgeon."
4. It was a small, grubby door, with no indication of what lay behind it.
5. Stacy realised that the android had returned.
