"However," the alien went on, "there is no guarantee that your friend will
still be
waiting for you. Considerable time has passed. When we intercepted the
vessel that abducted you, it was several weeks'
journey away from your planet." Stacy had forgotten for the moment that
she had spent
an unknown period of time in a cryosleep chamber. She would presumably
have to spend
more time in a similar chamber when returning to Earth on the ship that
would be sent
to reclaim the original vessel.
Then she thought of something else. "Even if Paula hasn't reported what happened, isn't it likely that the ship will have been discovered by now?" she asked. "Though the landing site was in a little visited spot, nowhere in Alabama is that little visited."
