After that, Diana makes a real effort to get to know her family like she was never able to before. Her children, mainly the older ones, are wary, and why shouldn't they be? She's been too wrapped up in her husband to ever be a real mother to them, never paid a bit of attention to them. Never loved them. So she tries to get them to start trusting her, to show them that she is capable of motherly love. Meanwhile, she also gets to know Connar. She hoped that she might grow to actually love him, but after a few days she's had no success with that. He doesn't hold her interest, he's not intelligent or very responsible, and by now he's so used to being completely loved by her that he makes no effort to try to deserve it. Not even a week after the spell was broken, Diana goes into labor. The whole time, she's just thinking about how she is having the child of a man that she doesn't love, and is never likely to love. The labor is not easy, and lasts over fifteen hours. At the end she feels very weak and immediately slips into blackness, and when she awakens, she is allowed to hold her twins.
