Diana is helping her in-laws-to-be pack, and is just about to put an apple in a basket of fruit to eat on the road when she stops, blinking. What is she doing? What did she ever see in that skinny, dull-eyed young man? She remembers the witch's spell for the first time since it was cast, and reasons that it must have been lifted. She doesn't know how, or why; she just knows she needs to get out of here. She goes to Connar's father the innkeeper. "I am sorry for misleading you, good sir," she says. "But I had mistaken your son for someone else. There will be no wedding." She knows this makes no sense, and gets out of there quickly before he can think this through enough to ask questions. On the way, she grabs the nearly-full fruit basket and leaves a gold coin on the table to pay for it; that, she thinks, should more than cover things. She doesn't have much, just a few more coins, the fruit, and the clothes on her back. She leaves the village promptly, not wanting to be near people for a while. She starts to wonder what she should do now, and remembers Fred, trapped as a shoe in Zenobia's closet. That must be her next step! She knows she must get some magical assistance, though, and so knows she must go home to her father's kingdom and consult the court mage. She has only gotten this far in her thoughts before she comes across another village by sheer happenstance (well, actually by Zenobia's influence, but she doesn't know that). Reasoning that she ought to rest a bit and see what she can buy in the village that could help her through her journey, she heads for the marketplace. But then, her eyes fall on...
