They continue to talk gently to her, and they seem benevolent; perhaps they really are good people and did not actually hurt her caretakers. She ends up following them through the forest, trotting happily alongside them all the way. It's strange to be out of the water for so long, but breathing is not difficult, at least; it's just that she can hold her breath for a very long time. Her fur does not revert back to its normal colour, and when the two sorcerers need a distraction from their grief over Aron, they discuss this. They each guess that it probably will go back to a normal colour over time, but it still has not by the time they leave the forest. When out of the trees, they travel by magic carpet, and Marina doesn't mind this in the least. She curls up next to them and sleeps soundly until she is awakened by the stillness. They have landed outside a tent in a (normal, non-enchanted) forest. They go inside, and there sits a middle-aged man in a long robe. He greets them enthusiastically, but after a short exchange they are all crying together. Marina doesn't understand this shift in emotion, and goes to nuzzle the middle-aged man's hand. "Who's this?" he asks through his tears, and his attention seems fully fixed on Marina. "We found her living in the pool with the nymphs," the woman says. "Apparently they took care of her." "Fascinating," the man says, eyes glued to the dog before him. "Prina, Jahal, this is no ordinary dog." "Well, no, she was living with nymphs—underwater half the time," Jahal says. "No," the middle-aged man corrects him. "I mean she has a curse on her."
