Diana surprises herself by admitting that. The witch—Or maybe I should start thinking of her as "Mom"... But that still sounds so wrong—blinks in what seems like surprise, though Diana—Brigid?—can't be sure. "I'm sorry I let this happen, sweetie. But I promise you, you are my flesh and blood daughter, your name is Brigid Brockett, and these confusing memories you're having—they're not real." She opens her arms, and the little girl rushes into them and gives her a big hug. The girl doesn't see the carbon copy of her older self smiling deviously at her gingerbread—it is very effective in getting people to take down their walls, and renders those who eat it highly suggestible. It's not a permanent fix—that would ruin half the fun—but she knows Diana is already starting to become Brigid.Motherhood is going to be interesting...
