Diana wakes up walking, with strong hands guiding her forward while covering her eyes at the same time. It's not something she's ever woken up to before. "Hey, what's happening?" she cries. "Sweetheart," the witch's voice says, "how did you even get down here? Those oil lamps in the lower levels, the green ones, they are not for you to look at. Never look at them, Brigid. They're dangerous." "But I never went to a lower level!" The witch sighs. "They mess with your head. A lot of the time you can't remember the events that lead up to you looking at them. Honey, I've been looking for you for over an hour. You were standing there, staring into that light the whole time." She is lying through her teeth, of course; she put Diana right in front of a lamp and told her to "look at the pretty light." Four days before. "I'm real hungry and thirsty," the girl complains. "And my feet hurt." That'll happen when you go four days standing in the same place without eating or drinking anything. "We'll get you a meal, and then you can rest." Diana, at this point...
