A Certain Game of Martian and Earthern Thrones (or something's rotten here)...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 101665

Dejah Thoris

It would appear we came an agrument from the looks of things. Something that I feel not butting into quiet yet, despite being of higher station and such.

Did not put as much investment as some of the more "stuffy" members of my social standing did while back on Mars and despite being a queen and all . . .

It would cause more problems than it would be worth to interrupt right now. Let it work itself out for a bit and then down to business, eh?

"Yes, I know that they are a bit young for marriage but do recall the I am sure you studied on post apopalyctic environments?" the older human huffs from that mirror Rei had been using. "In those dire situations certain social norms must go by the wayside. Especially when there is a need to bolster the human population due to massive die off situations and such?"

"Well yes but . . . ," a young woman who seems to be somehow related to John Conner sputters

"Considering the envirnment that John was obviously raised by you for such a world and Rei's sister coming from a post-apopalyptic world it would stand to reason then . . .," the older gentleman continues.

Turning to my compatriots and away from an obviously interesting tale here, instead I give one a wry look.

"It would appear that we've come upon things at a bad time Mina?" I ask somewhat dryly to one of the few people who been associated with that now reviled (and now defunct) group called the League of the Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Frankly, if she and her husband had still been associated with that vile shadow organization from England (who I took great pleasure at forcing concessions and reparations for that ill advised attempt of driving my people to extinction through harming our unborn while still in their eggs), I fear they would not be here still drawing breath! They were too honorable for that bunch so were dismissed, and thus sparing them my wrath!

Gods and Goddesses above and below with the League! It is like they took the unspoken rules in the Game for Thrones (the chthonic ones that Empires play which appears too draconian to those who are too . . .squeamish for what is needed for an Empire to thrive and survive in these times)…

And threw it out the window. What new depths would they have taken if we failed to answer for those crimes against us? I only shudder to think…

(Author’s Note: Dejah hales from a reality which is reflected in the comic book series The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen written by Alan Moore, noted to be an anarchist. With that in mind, is it any surprise that Dejah’s beliefs and some actions in affairs of state might seem a bit . . .ethically questionable here? Same for England’s actions? Take it up with the chap, Mr. Moore, who managed to portray that particular reality a bit TOO well for some people's likings. OR, maybe there is something MORE in the works than just that....)

Thankfully, while there was a war of sorts that war (thank the gods) has only been done in the shadows! A war like which what the more violent factions want would have the rivers run RED with blood on BOTH sides, a sentiment that at some level I shared for what had been done almost to me and mine, we avoided that.

Instead? Oh, it was a war, but less destructive on the population (directly). Long term effect, while not lethal, there will be a plenty but . . .

No, let us not speak of what the long term consequences shall be for the kingdom that spawned MI6 and the League, shall we? Just say suffice to say that those directly involved (and responsible) were punished in one fashion or another (especially those under our Savant’s thrall . . .a most viscous form of punishment being a prisoner in one’s one body while we have their shell as a loyal "mole" within the enemy’s ranks).

Yes, much better that than the usual means of Empires resolving things.

That a war would otherwise have broken out over such a thing and cause much to the suffering of both my people of Mars and my African subjects AND England), should go unsaid...

Oddly enough, while Mina and Allen seemed a bit saddened and angered to hear of the news about what the League had been doing since their abrupt dismissal, it hadn’t been as big of shock to them apparently as I’d been expecting. Honorable sorts or no, it appears that both of them were worldly enough to realize their former employer had a panache for underhanded deals than what had been hinted at whilst they’d been in the League.

Mayhaps it had something to do with that one rather "interesting" woman my consort had spoken of in his last dealings with Mina’s friends and associates? The one woman known only as "Inquirer" who was stated to have been the wife of that equally mysterious man who’d arrived in that odd blue box/spacecraft (which my Savants are still tearing their hair out trying to figure out exactly how it operated, even with discrete readings from afar during the meeting)? She had said something along the lines of having been involved in the Grand Game (an Earth euphuism for the intelligence business I learn later from my Spy Master) and perhaps had some enlightening stories which to educate them?

That or perhaps it had something to do with the . . . changes that had happened to them since last we met? I should guess getting transformed from human beings into dragons should have SOME effect upon their psyche, right? Oh, nothing bad mind you, know what I learned from what had been observed of the ones known as Chiana and Sigin.

. . .

My, did you actually think that I would have allowed my consort to go into a meeting without some kind of security coverage? Without trying to garner every possible advantage and learn everything we could from such mysterious folks? Oh, it was not as much as I would have liked but for a hastily slapped together clandestine effort…

Bottom line, I am not as surprised and unprepared for this as I could have been and leave at that, especially after learning some rather "eye opening" things about actual magic from the Mystics of my old world. People I would never have given a hearing before now, but situations and emergencies need to allow for "adjustments" to one’s world view, eh?

. . .

Though it is ODD that some of the odder onces keep on insisting that they used to be scientists just in a more esoteric field than most before coming to Earth. Said that the universe changed on them and they suddenly found themselves as "mystics" instead (magery taking the place of their "science"), but that's absurd!

Yes, the atmospheric generators back on our old homeworld failed due to reasons unknown but then again . . .

Well . . .I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation besides the very foundation of reality changing.

Anyway....

Basically, I know somewhat what my now draconian friends went through and dragons now or not, they are much more "human" (for want for a better term) than their former employers would ever be (or ever will be, their minds now within the bodies of the pets I have for my menagerie). At least I can hold an intelligent conversation with them and reasonably expect to have them understand me!

Still, that said I have to wonder just WHAT exactly Mina meant by wanting to meet her newest daughters again for the first time, especially the part about wanting to meet with Yuki before she got married. I can say for a fact that her having been married to the one known as John Conner was fairly early on established during our last meet just a few HOURS ago...

  1. Why do I have a feeling I must have missed something here?
