IMO zero = 0 base 10
one = 1 base ten,

and similarly for numbers up to 9.

In a similar style if I said ten I would mean 10 (= 11 in base 10).  The
only confusion is in the "teens" but this is easily fixed if the notaion
"onety" is introduced.

e.g.                         (base 10)
one                          = 1
two                          = 2
...
nine                         = 9
aye                          = 10
onety                        = 11
onety-one                    = 12
onety-two                    = 13
...
onety-nine
onety-aye
twenty
twenty-one.

also hundred has to be taken to mean 11^2 (base 10), thousand 11^3 (base
ten) etc.

besides this point I would argue 1 = "one" and 0 = "zero", thus wrtting
"one" is equivalent to wrting 1.
