Though still sluggish due to the sedation my sister were as quick to react
as I. We’ve had our share of rough awakenings where swift action was
needed.
The ship was decelerating, not at full power now that we were awake – it
would have been fatally dangerous moving around in that case – but enough
to provide a gravity well over 3G, no big problem for us to cope with. I
informed my sisters of the situation as we
made our way to the control panels and they we’re as confounded as I.
Once strapped in at our helms posts we brought up all available data of
our situation from the computer. It couldn’t yet be accurately decided
what
had interfered with our ship. At such speeds as we were traveling a sparse
cloud of gas in space would be enough to cause such turbulation, but an
attack was not unconceivable.
Had we been found? The thought was ludicrous. Not even he would
be able to pinpoint our infinitesimal ship in the vast void of space. Yet
the thought wouldn’t leave me.
Thinking of the “good” doctor brings back a wave of other memories.
Home base. That’s where we first met him, Dr Akacia. He approached us in
the officer’s cantina. I sensed something strange about him from the
beginning. We all did. Yet none of us suspected him.
You might find it ironic that the most deadly threat that my sisters and
me would face is a man from our own side. You should know that the most
dangerous man is always the one you let past your guard, though. All’s
fair in love and war.
I was intrigued by him. He never did tell us what kind of a doctor he
was. Certainly not the medical kind. His hands were hardened from hard
labor and his eyes had a cold tint. Windows to the soul, huh? Believe what
you want
I remember an uncle with eyes like that. He was a botanist. I remember the
smell of dirt and sap when I think of him. No connection of course, but he
grew acacia trees. I punctured my hand on them once. A precursor of things
to follow, long time afterwards?
Anyway, he was a real suave person. Chatted lightly with us and bought us
a round of drinks. Gin & Tonic. He even persuaded Lilith to take one, and
she never lets other people buy her drinks. Another omen.
We saw him many more times after that. His psychic abilities was of great
help during several of our missions. I also started seeing him
privately.
Like I said, none of us ever suspected him of anything. You can imagine
the shock when we caught sight of him from our temporary hiding place
during our mad flight from that party-turned-slaughterhouse. It churned my
guts to see this man whom I had befriended leading troops that was
systematically executing all unarmed corp. affiliated personnel.
Well, I’ve had enough time to regret that mistake. We have pressing
matters on our hands.

After completion of the info-scan, our ships computer could tell us what had just happened.
