It is a sad thing but sometimes when people meet they just don’t
click. They do not get along. Rub the other the wrong way.
That is pretty much what happened here and Rei had SO hoped that the
luck her adopted family had would rub off on HER for her adventures here...

Indeed, I really do sometimes wonder why I bother being nice. I mean,
here I go and try to impart some wisdom on a pair of frelling
blockheads who think they stand a chance . . .
And they go and either make demands or attack US?!
The one young boy I find out who is named Velus (maybe the analog of
that boy turned dog that various Uncle Fred D'Honaires ran into . . .who
weren't the Dragon in disguise?) has some sort of beef with Eve over here.
Rushes over to attack the still befuddled woman with sword and would have
cut her in HALF if we had not intervened with a few judicious “special”
magical blasts here (boy will he FEEL that when he wakes up).
Hadn’t wanted to scare Rei-chan with a lot of violence so my “Ecky-
Thump” (http://en. wikipedia. org/wik i/Kung_ Fu_Kap ers) magic
missile! Must thank Diane Walker for that British kung fu spoof some time.
But I BET YOU Velus didn’t expect THAT one. Funny (Rei-chan laughed)
and it does it’s job.
Dog boy’s out for the count. Cannot say that I feel upset over that.
Boy does not overly impress me, given everything! Draw a weapon on one of
MY companions? AN unarmed one?
. . .
Yes, I do believe I’m coming to believe Rei’s right. While “Eve” may
have the signs of a witch bond upon her I do NOT believe she actually IS
one.
. . .
Or if she had been . . . Something severed that bond and left behind a
very . . .niave and ill equipped woman to face this cold, cruel world
alone.
As for the other?
And this OTHER woman who's with Velus? No, she wants Rei-chan's new
little brother (and do I EVER want to learn about this business about her
getting adopted here and such) on a silver platter, asap!! That after Rei-
chan let slip just where she’d gotten her little brother from, so
proud she had been to rescue him from that “mean old” dragon woman...
Must talk to our little girl about tact, sometimes. See a pattern
forming here, what with this and calling Noako Akagi an “old hag” when she
didn’t know . . .
Nevermind. As for this b*tch’s demands? I fear it has something about
her people's fate being linked to "Junior's" life (i.e. the little
hatchling was to be a sacrifice).
. . .
Yeah, and now pull the other leg! See “Lord of the Rings” much?! What
next, a ring to be thrown into a volcano, maybe?

"I don't think so," the blue haired (and winged) woman says
softly. “Massive fail.”
Okay, I guess that last part just means something along the lines
of “not only no but Hell no” if I read her correctly.
Very interesting people I landed with here, let me tell you. Good
people I guess for the most part. That “G-man” chap gives me the creeps,
but at least I see he’s human.
. . .
I think. But as for the others like Rei and her twin sisters?
Not exactly SURE what race she belongs to, honestly. However, she is
loyal to family!
. . .
I mean, honestly. Is she a glider and “Rei-chan” will get her
wings to sprout at some later date? Is she one of the Faire Folk? Why do
her wings glow like that if she doesn’t make a conscious effort to dim
them?
. . .
Oh, to Hell with trying to figure things like THAT right now. We‘ve
got a child to get OUT of these caverns and THEN I can go and figure out
what race exactly Rei and her sisters are. That and what is UP
with the pale skinned ones. If it wasn‘t for their reflections I saw
awhile ago in a provided mirror I borrowed, I‘d fear they may be
vampires...
That is NOT something I‘d need right now, thanks.
“Who ARE you people?” the egg hunter demands, seeing that she’s NOT
going to get anywhere with us with all these OBVIOUSLY magical (but ODD)
wands pointed at her. Must say that the red beams from them kind of make
for a good aiming device . . .and are a bit scary to boot.
“We are the people who are warning you not to head down that
way,” the one known as Lilith (who’s name is WAY too close to “Lily”, name
of not only a name of a flower - and also that of a demon of great and
terrible power in the mythology of my people) snaps. “That is,
according to our friend over here. . . .”
Lilith gestures to Eve--that somewhat befuddling woman who was apt at
calling me “Woman of Gigantic Spherical Objects” until asked to “quit it
for God’s sake” by a quiet exasperated elfin blonde woman over there--
before continuing.
“THAT way is the way she had wondered away from,” Lilith explain
slowly, speaking to the increasingly angered warrior woman in a tone that
belittled her intelligence. “Whatever magery the female dragon did to her
to lose her memory was done in a mage’s lab in the pasaageway you’re
wandering down.”
“Our advice to you would be to NOT go down that way,” Rei says
sharply. “Do NOT engage the dragoness in combat for you will obviously
fail, given how easily you were overcome here by us . . .and we went easy
on you.”
That one made the angered warrior woman before me even angrier, but she
wisely held her peace. Having strange, magical weaponry drawn on one’s
self with no hope of launching a successful attack has done wonders for
our egg hunting friend here, I wont.
“You’d be well advised in following her advice,” I put in from the
side. “Dragon slaying is not to the ill trained and ill prepared.
Dragonslayers are warriors specifically reared from an early age
for that task, you know.”
And while I do NOT consider myself a slouch in the ways of a warrior, I
must now admit to myself I did so VERY much underestimate the dragon I had
gone off to slay for my “rite of passage” trophy.
. . .
I . . .bit off more than I could chew and . .
Well, we’ll sort that out later. I know right now that Rites shall
wait for I owe my rescuers here (worthy they are, albeit strange like I’ve
never seen) much. That and if nothing else I believe that I cannot
stomach the idea of a CHILD being down here any longer than necessary.
It’s not safe, for God’s sake!
And that was pretty much the note that Rei’s group left on with Eritrea
(Velus only awakening, groggy, well after the fact). Eritrea did not
share any revelations about conversations that Velus had with Fred (back
before having been evicted and Eve’s soul replacing his in that woman’s
body . . .uh, you know what I mean). So no false leads would be followed
by Rei’s group in curing Eve of her amnesia and restoring her to “Fred”.
And of course, advice isn’t listened to by the angry couple known as Velus
and Eritrea. They have the bad luck of stumbling upon the Dragoness
and . . .after getting captured by the acid trolls (or whatever) and the
reptile’s minions are put through the wringer.
But our eyes must turn back to Rei’s group. As events go further and
further astray from a certain (well written) other story thread, we find
that our group of adventurers opted on visiting the slain Dragon’s
treasure hoard to stock up on needed items...
-
And run smack into another group interested in picking up a few things of their own from the dead dragon’s stuff as well...
