Lilith Later, I shall learn many things about this strange world (and people) we have visited today. Will even learn something more about the still taciturn entity known as “the G-man” (what IS his real name?!). Learn that part of his rage towards Morbius was largely due to a fatal flaw he attributed to his ancestors on this planet. A fatal flaw that was due to an arrogance. It was the “Tragic flaws” which had nearly spelled the extinction of his race. Later I shall look up this movie online and find an article about the movie which reflects this place (and people). Most telling is this paragraph from this article from “Wikipedia” (odd name): ”Forbidden Planet follows Aristotle's rules for tragedy. A great man is brought down by a single "tragic flaw" or error of judgment — his belief in his moral superiority, which supposedly follows his intellectual superiority. The same flaw destroyed the "noble Krell" as well. And, as Aristotle preferred, the story takes place over many years (in this case, twenty), yet is told almost entirely through exposition.” Seeing the same failing within Morbius as his own ancestors had and having fiddled with the same equipment that had almost wiped out his people, that may explain something about G-man’s reaction. That and the thought that someone may be fooling about with the bones of his ancestors... Or I could be totally misreading the G-man here and something else (perhaps more sinister) lay at the root of his behavior? Whatever the case, it and add into his “aura of fear” he exudes one can see why Morbius (as well as the others here about) had been somewhat cowed. But . . it also served as a catalyst for the disaster which almost had befallen us. Alone, the tentative “pickup lines” that Commander Adams used would have only annoyed Dr. Morbius. But the G-man’s heavy handed tactics (if you could call them tactics but Rei had discretely gestured to us all to let him have his run, clearly planning something) only fueled his fears and such (scared him shitless). Emotions running VERY high and suddenly Morbius’ ID decided to come out and play with us!! Or more like come out and played with poor Commander Adams: painfully! Then probably with the rest of us: painfully! But that article I find later. For later. Dear sister Rei’s reaction to that mess had been more . . .interesting to me, actually. That and rather funny, in a way. . . . Hrmph. Pardon. Couldn’t help that giggle there. It is just that . . .I can understand why she speaks English with an English accent (and a Victorian/Edwardian era one at that): our parents! She of course took it upon herself to learn English because most of her family use it as a primary language. Kind of a tribute of love to our parents, you see. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, they say. But usually she fails to use much in the way of British phrases. Usually as a favor to those not used to it. . . . It had been something of a surprise to have found that "her" England hadn't been mostly submerged by rising sea levels brought about by Second Impact. My world's England had been mostly . . .sunk beneath the waves. A TRUE loss... But that aside, whatever the case I think that she does not slip into British "slang" out of politeness sake for others about her. Outside of Britian one may have difficulty following a speaker if they . . .well, you know. Britian speaks it's own form of English. America speaks it's own form of English and both can be "bloody" hard to followw for those like in NERV who only speak a very "bookish" version of the beast! "Bollocks!!" Rei swears, wide eyed as she sees what is making a rather bad mess coming our way! Rei To say that things had NOT gone according to plan would be a vast understatement! The G-man HAD been as upset with Morbius as he had let on but had been acting the way he had acted in the hopes that through sheer intimidation (something that when he puts his mind to the G-man is eminently capable of) that whatever link that Morbius had with the “Great Machine” of the Krell would be disrupted. And disrupted for a long time until Morbius was able to compose himself (something that would take a lot of doing after the shakeup the G-man gave him). Long enough to fix matters in a more . . .acceptable manner. . . . Something that the G-man said did not involve “Excedrin 9mm”… Well, the man was the nearest thing we had to an expert on this dire situation (the Great Machine/Id monster) so I had believed him when he concocted this plan off the cuff. Later I would have clued everyone else in on things but that was before things had gone pear shaped! Well, maybe the G-man had missed a guess somewhere. Honestly, he had admitted to me (telepathically) that he was surprised any kind of connection had been made between the Machine and a human being. It had been designed for Krell in mind and nothing else. And the G-man had mistakenly believed that Morbius had some kind of conscious control over the Machine (and not his subconscious being connected). Well, that had been a wrong guess!! Heh, time for plan B? Pulling off a necklace I have been wearing discretely since the beginning of this adventure, I rush over to the stunned looking Morbius and slip it over his head. Then I look (admittedly fearfully) back over where whatever wicked is coming this way to apparently pound on us. . . . Absolute silence greets this taboo and a quick look at my tricorder (left running in quiet mode for . . .various reasons not needed to into right now) shows . . .whatever the heck that was HAD been there but is . . . "The disturbance is gone," Robby announces after a few clicks and whirs, apparently doing the same thing my tricorder does. I nod slightly and release the breath I'd been holding, and glance at the somewhat flustered Morbius and the startled looking G-man. Seriously, given my history is it so surprising that I have some kind of magical defense against psionic intrusions? He’s read Reika’s history and knows that her’s was very like mine. Even IF the necklace is only partly effective against his brand of telepathy (dampens it)… "I am sooo glad that my necklace worked much better on humans than Krell," I mutter to myself and then tighten my grip on the necklace as a befuddled looking Morbius touches it as to . . .take it off?! "DO not think about removing this," I snap at him. After hearing that the necklace is the only thing keeping his ID from coming out to play (duh!), while subdued he at least now isn’t going to try to debate his way out of things. He’s listening to us and that is good . . .being that I believe we may be able to fix things here to where he’s not a menace to everyone about him (and himself). Yes, if you have not guessed the necklace is only a temporary solution for various reasons (one being that eventually the spellwork on it will fail EVENTUALLY under the stress it's under right now). Cannot say I am thrilled about this situation (heh, understatement of the century), but I do feel for Morbius, what a shock it must be to him to discover HE had been the source of all those deaths of his comrades and such so long ago, it’s not enough for me to shirk my duty and such. IF . . .worse comes to worse then we’ll . . .silence him. . . . Kill him, severing his connection to the Great Machine here through ceasing his life. I shall do it ONLY if there is no other means at hand. Too many people's lives are at risk here fiddle about. IF the G-man cannot break Morbius' connection to the Great Machine then . . .I will not leave the lives of thousands and thousands of former co-workers in the lurch. While perhaps no longer connected to NERV as I had been while the First Child, I still feel . . .a connection. Something along the lines of why the Bond I had between mankind through Eva Unit 00. And besides, do you really think that I'd turn my back on so many people, residuals or no? . . . Oh, and let us not forget . . .Tabris' existence is also threatened by Morbius' connection. And if the former Angel should die, then an entire planetary population shall be consigned to Game 3. Hell indeed. I . . .just didn’t feel it was justifiable to just kill Morbius where he stands without trying other options first. I wince at how badly everyone would take it, to put it mildly. ESPECIALLY Morbius’ daughter! Let us hope it does not come to that! . . . |
