The Never Ending Quest - Episode 71503

"Robby the Robot?!" Rei and the rest blink, floored.

Then some blink again, surprised that some members of this group should know of Robby. Members like Reika and such, even though such information is readily available on what is LEFT of the Internet on their worlds (the parts that hadn't been reclaimed by the military after the coming of Second Impact).

Those like Rieka couldn’t have helped to bump into info on Robby the Robot whilst attempting to research yet another puzzling statement by a NERV employee, fellow class student, or some such. But still it is jarring to those like Dr. Akagi, who has only recently gotten used to the idea that the young woman was an actual person and not (as she'd falsely believed) a clever simulation of one, downloaded from a computer into a human form.

Dr. Akagi? Well, while she may have been stuck with her nose in a book studying for college and such, she DID have something of a life outside books. Was sociable enough, you know... Can see as much if you've seen the anime.

Rei? Well, same as Reika AND after everything? Not only with that infusion of "her" Yui Akari's memories and experiences? She also was a member of a family who . . . took it upon themselves to bring her up to speed on the "pop culture" stuff. 'Nuff said.

She hadn't seen "Forbidden Planet" yet, but it had been on her things to do.

Hrmph.

Tabris? Well, while his field of interest in literature seems to concentrate heavily upon mangas and anime surrounding his old life (i.e. the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" franchise), he HAD seen some of the more infamous movies that Robby the Robot had appeared in (like "The Invisible Boy") due to one of his boys fanatical devotion to the old time robot. He could recount (ad nauseam) all the facts that his little boy had parroted off . . .including the fact that Robby first appeared in "Forbidden Planet" (a movie he never saw and after getting VERY tired of it all, despite loving his little one, had sworn never to view).

And now he's landed in a live action version of it...

G-man? Well, he's worked with his "intel weenies" long enough to learn of the fantastic bot...

As for Lilith, she'd seen several Twilight Zone episodes whilst on business trips (mostly to try to beg for more funds for Project E) back while she'd called herself Yui Akari...

Dr. Morbius, having made the robot, of course knows about Robby . . .but nothing about him being an icon of popular culture (elsewhere/when).

"Yes I am monitored to respond to that name," Robby says calmly, making his way slowly up to the others. "How can I be of service?"

If he finds Rei's group's appearance odd he hardly shows is. Then again, given the robot's rather mechanical appearance, how would one be able to tell! Well, there is his voice but...

Robby does NOT say anyting about detecting a massive time/space displacement event (the appearance of NERV-2 in their own back yard). That and hadn't rushed over to see if Morbius (and the rest) were alright. Didn’t rush to see if his creator had been caught in something . . .lethal. Or exposed to something lethal.

Most odd.

Point in fact one of Rei’s group (ignoring the odd looks from the commander and his second in command for the moment) goes so far as to ask Robby about that.

The answer was simplicity itself. He’d already determined Morbius’ good health from afar. That and besides a bit of light and displacement of air (a big gust of wind), nothing else slightly life threatening had come from NERV-02’s unexpected arrival.

All three of them.

Robby goes on further to state (being somewhat pedantic minded then and there and to the consternation of Rei’s group) that each piece of displaced real estate matched the quantum signature (Robby used different terminology than that, but it translated into that) as the winged sisters before him.

Meaning that in one fell swoop that Robby just laid bare to everyone present that Rei and her sisters (at least) were from a different reality. THAT was just too weird for some, but . . .

“I was going to be getting to that,” Rei said in an aggrieved voice, answering the wide eyed stare that Morbius was giving her.

‘If it became necessary in the course of things anyway,’ Rei amended to herself.

Honestly, that would probably have only muddied the waters (like Robby had done in one fell swoop). Something that Rei had hoped to avoid. Her job was going to be hard enough as it stood.

Sparing a withering glare at the unrepentant mechanism, she sighs and waves a hand at the still boiling mess she’d been making before things had gone pear shaped here.

‘If all this does not thrown a spanner into the works then I don’t WANT to know what will,’ Rei sighs to herself as she magically douses the fire and stows the still warm mess into an awaiting container (ala bag of holding) for later use.

“I was going to explain just why we are here . . .the purpose of our visit to your world before this all happened,” Rei then says, turning back to Morbius (and ignoring the others from that spaceship that Robby had taxied here).

  1. “I still wish to but shall we do this at a more civilized setting? Over tea and such because this is going to take some going!”
