The Never Ending Quest - Episode 70838

Lilith

"Now, pardon me please for asking and pausing but could perhaps we be given your name before we continue?" Rei asks the dark haired man before us, putting him just a little further out of sorts than he already was here.

Strange. It is almost as if this man has some form of xenophobia I sometimes noticed in certain bad American science fiction movies from the 1950's. However, I will only put it down to him being out of sorts at our appearance and give him a benefit of the doubt. After all, I myself find I still am getting somewhat used to all this.

The wings are wonderfully soft and powerful but still sometimes I look in the mirror and blink at seeing them.

Being this healthy is something I need to be getting used to again! That's something to get used to, you know. Back whilst I was called "Yui Akari" I was healthy enough, but now?

Geeze, Rei must be some kind of health nut because when her body (as a template) was imposed upon mine and Reika)...

Nevermind, that's not really here and now, right?

As for the here and now, I do not think that this is a crossover situation. If it is it is something I'm not familiar with...

Not like we ARE in a 1950's movie crossover, right?

. . .

PLEASE tell me we are not in a 1950's movie! I cannot even stomach the thought of one of those vapid, "red scare" shlock movies.

Oh. No I see the problem. It's the G-man. He keeps glancing over at the man in question as if slightly nervous. He has that air of menace about him, you know. Yes, perfectly understandable when you think about it.

Besides, I do recall we never actually gave a real name for the G- man, right?

. . .

We never did get a name from him, actually...

"Dr. Edward Morbius," the man says after a slight pause as we wait. "The philologist of the Bellerophon expedition."

"Only survivor?" Rei asks, gesturing over at some of the old ruins and guessing that something must have happened to have that word 'formerly' to be used. Would fit. "Is there anything we could perhaps do to help? Contact your world or something, perhaps?"

"Not quiet . . .er . . but thank you for the kind offer," the man says, looking at Rei and then seeming to make some connection. "Actually, I must say that it is rather unfortunate that you are here on Altair IV ahead of your compatriots of the United Planets Cruiser C-57D. I did warn them that landing here would be dangerous and I would not be held accountable for what befell them, you know.

"Though I must add that you are quiet more polite than your commander had been," Morbius adds, with a bit less heat to his voice near the end. Not all of his reservations about our grup have been laid to rest, but I can see (I think) that he's a bit more at ease with us.

Honestly, if the situation was reversed I would have a LOT of questions about my group. Our wings being one of the questions and our naked elfin companion (who our unexpected host is doing the gentlemanly thing and not peaking at right now) being perhaps the most prominant...

He's handling this in an intelligent manner. One thing at a time.

Later I find out that the commander of this ship Morbius speaks of had cut the connection (right in the middle of Morbius' warnings to not land on Altair IV) and the man had been understandably annoyed by that.

"Hanging up" in the middle of a conversation is never polite, no matter what the convesation going on, you should know!

God knows how many times that happened even to ME while I and the others at GERHN (the precursor to NERV) had that happen to us when we were trying desperately to get needed resources and funds for Project E in the post Second Impact world...

"My . . . I must add that several things must have changed since the last time I walked upon Earth," Morbius continues, glancing at our group again in slight consternation. "Much more . . . .progressive than I ever imagined them becoming in the decades that passed, if they allow for not only mixed races but also females into the ranks."

"We . . . uh . . . are not part of that ship you speak of sir," Rei sighed, opting for some reason for what appears complete disclosure. Maybe it is to avoid awkward questions (i.e. not caught in a lie) when this starship finally DOES come down?

I then see a glare thrown Rei's way by the G-man and her wincing slightly, as if in pain.

If worse comes to worse we can just "sleep spell" him and then proceed on into this underground place on our own, Rei's terse reply rings out in my and her companions minds, by 'mindspeak'. I for one would much rather have the natives willingly show us the way in than try to force our way through Heaven only knows kinds of security measures and such.

And thus the reason why we are being so forthcoming instead of trying to B.S. our magick our way out of this mess. At least the G-man looks somewhat appeased at this line of reasoning.

  1. I just wonder why he keeps flinching slightly and doing the "Dutch blik" thing, now. Almost like he keeps seeing something out of the corner of his eye?
