A Place to Go...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 45205

Elrondir

"I at least have a means to put those who shouldn’t fight out of harms way," I continue on, sighing a little bit.

This, of course, takes a bit of explaining . . .

Of course, it takes a lot of talking! What, you'd think that this Carradene would just believe a total stranger with such a wild tale? Then again, the guy is desperate (he hides it well but I've been around "my" Carradenes to be able to tell); he knows what is at stake (the continued existence of the Pack). Oh yes, seems that most Minestuses out there can be petty enough to take it out on his "toys". Being that I really don't know the details, I'm just making plans on the fly. I could be wrong about Carradene's motivations. Might be entirely wrong about this whole situation, but my heart (that fey thing) tells me I'm right.

I've learned to trust my heart.

...

It's an elf thing. You'd have a HELL of a hard time understanding. Sometimes I can't follow the logic, myself...

Anyway...

Not many volunteers we get actually have dragonslayer (or an comparable equivalent) training. Few have training good enough to be of use at all. Carradene, having managed to somehow hide (or have smuggled onto the island of Moreau probably by some shadowy ally, like perhaps this world's Malachi) magical equipment, is going to stay behind (says he has a score to settle). Not surprised to hear that Loam is going to fight the good fight, even IF it's at the side of very strange strangers. Not surprised at all that Lord Fred is going to figh. HE has a score to settle. His own sense of honor demands it.

Leon's fighting with us because the only way to get Zhora back from Minestus' clutches is going to be over the dragon's dead body!

There are others, but I haven't ever met their analogs before so can't tell much about them.

...

So many unknowns. Same but different, but that's the nature of this parallel reality business. You sort of get used to it in my line of work (former and present). Probably why the Manimals are only giving Chiana odd looks instead of outright hostility. She IS a dragon, but in human seeming. A whiff of her draconian essence in her scent, I'm sure, when the wind blows right and it hit's their sensitive noses. Maybe in THIS reality dragons (Oriental and Occidental) don't have the ability to transform into a human seeming?

Maybe. Either that or they've wrote her off as a species of intelligent people they've never met before.

That is more true with Aeryn Pip than with Chiana (now), but I'll just go and thank the Creator for our luck! Don't need someone like, say, Lord Fred (the manfox here) trying to slay her!

We can't talk much, but that's not to say that there aren't attempts at arguments! Somehow I am not entirely surprised that Alicia wants to stay and fight. Not surprised that Fred insists that she goes with the other noncombatants. I myself am too far away to overhear the argument’s contents between Ethiopean princess and Allarian knight and lord, but if things in this reality mimicked events back in Terra Prime . . .

Then the actual contents of the argument (brief though it was before she gets dragged along by others of the Pack through the Door) centers around consequences of instinct driven actions (well beyond their control)...

...

If things happened here as I learned from the manfox and womanfox in question, then this Alicia is . . . .

Chiana

" . . . in a family way?" Fred mutters, shaking his shaggy head before hurrying away back to our side.

Interesting what one can learn by snooping.

However, sometimes even with translator microbes (and a universal translator, drad device!) the stuff I overhear I can't follow everything.

B'Elanna? I send via "mindspeak" (nice being able to do that. Hadn‘t had that ability before now, but in my family it had popped up from time to time. Do you have any idea on what this phrase means?

Of course, Zhora (VERY disoriented) comes stumbling out of the bushes, so I don‘t get an answer.

  1. Or at least . . I think that she's Zhora . . .
