Mummies! Why Does It Always Have to Be Mummies?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 33588

Betty

I keep my eyes on our newest arrivals as we pile out of the TARDIS. They seem eager to meet the challenge of their Validation Quest, and I have a good feeling that they will be up to the task. Of course, this task doesn't seem like it should be too hard. Follow the tracer wand to locate the segment of the key, get it, and get on to the next thing. Right? Yeah, like anything's ever that easy... We've already got one complicating factor, in the form of that psychic distress call the Doctor picked up. Something to do with the presence of here of what we're looking for, or just another of the many random events that tend to complicate our lives? Well, I suppose we'll find out soon enough...

"All right," says Inquirer, consulting the tracer wand as she emerges into the caves. "Looks like we've got a fix on the segment. What I suggest we do is--"

But she's suddenly cut off by a load moaning cry, as something comes lurching around the corner towards us .

"What the frell is that?!" shouts Chiana.

"Oh, geez!" I blurt out. "Not another mummy!" And the guy who dealt so handily with the Pharoh's mummies last time [ep 26702], of course, isn't here...

Even before I've got the words out, though Inquirer has pressed the locator wand into Chiana's hand and leapt at the creature with a rather impressive kung-fu kick to the chest. It staggers back, but doesn't fall, and grabs her in a grappling hold. Physically, they appear to be about evenly matched... Which, given that I know how strong Inquirer is, means that I'm quite sure I don't want to go up against it in hand-to- hand combat. And I still can't think of any damn anti-mummy spells. Man, after the last time, you'd think I would have taken some time to research that...

The Doctor, however, clearly feels none of the qualms I do, and he breaks the creature's hold on his wife with what I assume is one of his patented Venusian Akido moves. Somebody -- I don't see who -- lets off a phaser blast at it, causing its bandages to smoke. It roars in pain, whirls around, and runs back off down the corridor.

"What do we do?" asks A'eitia.

  1. "We follow it!" responds Inquirer. "Come on!"
