See, things have been going a bit screwy....
Reynolds would have used a more elegant choice of words, but in the
end it would amount to the same.
It was a bit off, as Reynolds had said concerning the situation surrounding
Dean after that meeting between Dean and the mysterious Brill. Nothing
yet that Reynolds and his team had tried had been able to uncover the mystery
man's true identity. There had been 23 Brills in Baltimore area alone,
and none had checked out. Attempts to raise the stakes further by framing
Dean for murder of Rachel AND his wife, then kidnaping his child had proved
disastrous! Pratt and the others Reynolds had sent to do the deed had cut
and run (the one agent that the Cartel had found later had kept babbling
nonsense about elves, magic, and crying and crying about not being able
to tell lies......) Strange indeed. That and the fact that it soon became
obvious that for some reason Reynolds did indeed have to have the captured
fugitive killed because he "kept running his mouth." Then there was the
reason just WHY he was here on a Sunday morning....
In addition to what Reynolds KNEW was planted evidence (and increasing
evidence) that HE was on the take, somehow and other wrongdoings (mysterious
large amounts of money suddenly appearing in his wife's private account
and a bouquet of flowers from somebody named Crista). There was the surveillance
equipment found in both his house AND Congressman Albert's hotel room (God
knows what had been seen in the last). This was doubly bad because not
only did it anger a highly placed member in the group that Reynolds belonged
to, it was bad because the survey equipment belonged to Reynolds' team!
Somebody had swiped that very equipment from his team and planted it in
his own house and that of Congressman Albert's hotel room!
Somebody was toying with Reynolds and he didn't like it even a little!
At least I was able t send my two girls away to their grandparents
in to keep them safe, Reynolds sighed, hoping that whoever was toying
with him wouldn't strike at him through them!
A twinge of conscious was pushed away, reminding him that HE had ordered
something similar to happen to Dean.....
That's different....it's for the greater good, Reynolds told
himself.
Meanwhile, the director of NSA (a man not within either Reynolds or
Abbot's circle) is still speaking softly....clearly angered.
He slams his hand down on the table, causing the department heads to
jump in surprise!
The director finishes up by saying that if whoever had checked out the
materials found in Albert's room was doing it on a legit op, then so be
it. But if it was someone's unilateral wet....er.....if it wasn't legit,
then that somebody was going to jail!
Reynolds' felt like the temperature in the room was going up a bit.
The stakes had been raised, alright.
Against him!
Next, two people get phonecalls from mysterious people......
Reynolds gets one from a man named Brill.
But there is also another phonecall given to one Bernard Abbot!

Soon after
the rather tense meeting with the director of the NSA, Abbot and a special
guest are discussing recent events......
