It took a bit of doing, again, to get all the Doctors and companions
to come along, but soon all are enjoying the pleasure of riding on dragonback
(and with as large of wingspan that Sigin had in his full wyrm form.....it
was easy to fly them). The TARDIS is preset to materialize within the Dark
Tower upon the reversing of the neutron flow on the machine that holds
the TARDIS paralyzed where she lays. The doors are locked and the fifth
Doctor pockets his key.
"And if we lose that key we can always get the one in the sign on top,"
Betty smiles, causing the other Doctors (except Dr. Who) to look at her
in askance.
They still are coming to grips with much, and even a Time Lord like
they find the concept of their lives being chronicled in a SF TV story
a bit bizarre!
"So we just fly to the Dark Tower and enter," the second says, "Somehow
I rather doubt that Rassilon ever had dragonflight in mind when he set
up the challenges to getting to the Tower.....not that I'm complaining."
The other Doctors, even the third and Dr. Who, echo their agreement.
"If things work out as they are in the story," Ragan calls back to the
others as Sigin takes flight, "we will have to pass a checkerboard pattern
boobytrap where it's easy as pi.....the 3.1415 et cetra kind.
We'll encounter phantoms of the mind to try to keep us away. We will also
read an ancient Gallifrayian message about how Rassilon will offer immortality
for those who seek it and get to his tomb proper......"
"By all means don't take the ring he offers that will give his
brand of immortality!" Ragan says in warning, "Not unless you want to become
yet another immortal stone decoration on his tomb."
"Before he goes into his......sales pitch....I believe that the message
we have for him will make too concerned about others things," Fred says,
patting Astra's hand.
The others tried to get these two to show the message, but after mention
that it may not be such a good idea since the message was for Rassilon
and not them....AND it was from a rather powerful being nobody forced
the issue.
While winging their way to the Tower, the conversation (via telepathy
afforded by Sigin....to better be heard over the noise of the wind) drifts
back towards what the Doctors experienced near death a bit ago.....
Oh, I guess I should thank you for that leg up back at the radio
telescope, the fourth Doctor says, I guess that's where my fourth
Regeneration would have ended and my next would begin?
The Doctors, after comparing stories, pretty much figures that out.
Yes, it would just have done that, the fifth Doctor says. Can't
say that the memory of the painful landing will be remembered with fond
memories....
Which brings me to my little episode, the fifth Doctor chuckled,
I
can't say that I would care to die from that toxin....and come back as
that multicolored Doctor you showed me in that magical picture!
The others nod in agreement. Even the second Doctor, who didn't bother
to dress in "top of the line fashionable" clothing had found the clothing.....horrid.
That and the news about how the sixth Doctor acted at times.......
I must admit that was the coolest thing any version of me ever did.
Betty smiles over at Ragan.
So they fly, the second, third, and Dr. Who agreeing to keep a
truce for Susan's sake (who'd said it had distressed her to see her "grandfathers"
bicker amongst themselves)...... So she was able to do something that would
have been hard for others to do, but since she was the only family from
Gallifrey that would still even acknowledge the Doctor's existence.....
Well, anyway the snippy comments were kept to a minimum.....
-
Soon they
arrive at Rassilon's doorstep much sooner than they'd accomplish if doing
it by foot.....
