Jones and Differences...

The Never Ending Quest - episode 18002

That is the man who brought a few elfin kids and is speaking with a few high profile individuals....

A bit earlier

"Oh, these?" Eric asks, gesturing at one of his implants, "They just boost reflexes by a bit. Even with martial arts, I found that being a bit 'cybered' was needed to get....out of difficult situations back on the streets before I joined the Military."

He goes onto explain that the implants in his body were minimal and had (before upgrading in the Military) been of better quality than normally available on the street. Some poor souls, searching for the fabled "edge" had so many implants in them that they'd give Darth Vader a run for his money (and so psychotic from the low quality gear that it took days for those who decided to volunteer for the Military to get their minds put right).

Note:As an aside, Diana Walker had been one of those later kind. The kind who was heavily "cybered" (not that it showed). The kind who got stuck with low quality cybernetics, and thus needing a bit of a fix when entering into the Military. The kind who stayed in the Military, despite cyber-psychosis being cured (i.e. the Military cyber-docs cure minds, not do the mind alteration bit).

"It's odd," Ian Arnstein observes aloud, "Differences attitudes in cybernetics? Back when I only knew of the Star Trek universe and the Doctor Who universe through TV, you saw a general fear of the dehumanizing effects cybernetics could have on human beings. Witness the Borge and the Cybermen! Not many people actually want it, understandably. But now we have the Military, a definite cyber-punk genre kind of setting by Eric's own words, where they embrace it! AND, in my humble opinion, Eric here is hardly a heartless killing machine."

The Janeways and those of the Nantucket Council nod at that slightly as they see Eric and Solik'tril Jones, father and son. Definitely family and a warm one at that.

From all accounts the visiting Empress of the Dwarven Nation could be as cold as ice if need be, but wasn't an emotionless killer, either. She cared deeply and passionately for her subjects. Pity the one who said differently within hearing of her or her subjects.....

Some idly wonder where the science of cybernetics had learned the trick of being able to safely implant into an elf, but that'll be asked later.....

The subject then drifts begins to drift to other things when the Key that Jenny Elf happens to be carrying begins to ring. Her "sisters" (paying a visit from Xanth to see long lost parents) stare at it, surprised and not knowing what to make of the odd noise (something that had been happening a LOT since coming here).

Still very news to the way of high technology and high magic (or combinations of the two), she'd learned about this one thing.

"Why is she talking to that thing?" one Jenny from Xanth asked another, perplexed.

  1. "It's for you," Jenny says, handing it to Eric, "Something about a holographic rig?"
