Abilities Unknown to Magicks...

The Never Ending Quest - episode 17985

"Couldn't we achieve the same effect more easily through a magical illusion?" Annafrid asks, still not as comfortable with science as some of us have become.

Jarlath

I smile a soft smile as I look over at her, understanding her reluctance a little bit. I am also smiling, seeing yet again that there apparently are many worlds out there where the use of magic is not despised by the normal populus.

"Dear, while we could perhaps easily do such a magick relatively easy in part," I tells her, "the control of the apparition would have to be by either myself or another mage located in the near general vicinity of the false haunting, however. Exotica is too far away where she is right now to successfully control a magical phantasm."

"And as much as I wanted to," Exotica added somewhat tartly, "You convinced me that the best bet for successfully rescuing my mother would be for me to stay behind."

The idea was that as long as Emry thought that his daughter was dead then there would be no reason for him to harm Exotica's mother. I fear that having Exotica near enough to be able to successfully pull off this scam was just tempting fate. If Blondin is more powerful than Exotica (and I can tell Exotica isn't a "pushover") then I fear that he could detect the magic of a phantasm. Then Blondin would trace it back to Exotica......one too many clues, and the jig would be up and Exotica's mother's life would be forfeit!

"Besides....one thing that will definitely throw off any spells of magic detection that Blondin will use against our false spectre," Dragon Synizn puts in, "The illusion is 'science' driven, not 'magic' driven!"

I remember how frustrating it had been for Manbear Synizn and the other mages of Terra Prime when they repeatedly failed again and again to figure out the powerful magicks that obviously were being used by the Alliance and the Enemy soon after the coming of the Enemy/Alliance war to Terra Prime's shores. While "science" had begun to come into it's own there before then, it had only been seen as an affordable, but inferior, substitute for magic for the masses. Boy, did they (and I through my teachers) learn a lot since then!

Seeing that technology was a bit less developed here now than Terra Prime back then, I feel that the same might even be more true here than there.

"And that'll be our edge," I add, patting her shoulder, "That is, if we can actually get it....of course."

So after a few more words to alleviate the worries that my love has, I pull out my Key to contact one back on Nantucket Earth (in Nantucket) who could well set things in motion.

  1. That is the man who brought a few elfin kids and is speaking with a few high profile individuals....
