"Hurry, we don't have much time!" I shout to the others.
Joan
"Great," I mutter softly as others clamber onto the dragon mage's back,
"Just what we need right now, for Fred's fairy nature to kick in at a time
like this!"
We've already seen the Unseelie fey sides of the people we've been out
to rescue try to gain control and keep control in those who are being changed.
While the mages and the pixie had agreed that it was possible that something
similar could happen.....cause a knee jerk reaction to where Fred's Seelie
fey nature to assert itself....I personally had thought it wouldn't. In
fact, I'd secretly thought that the measures of changing the clothing that
Fred had been wearing before into a warrior's chain mail armor (with slits
for his dragonfly like wings and magic to keep it from shifting around
and damaging those same appendages) to keep reminding Fred of his human
heritage looked a bit odd. While he looked dashing enough, it still struck
me as odd. The fact that the armor also had a little magical "extra" for
just this kind of contingency I had privately laughed at....considering
one thing that would surely happen. A new name for his fairy self and/or
a spell to prepare for this "Unseelie hunt" (whatever exactly that is all
about).
That would/could happen during the minutes between the time we took
off by dragonflight to the place where he was happening to flitter off
to, so while I admire the ability that the dragon mage has at being able
to track his own magic....though such a dense jungle environment.....
By now I believe we all know that if that happens those who we are trying
to save from turning into Unseelie monsters.....well.....there was only
one thing left for that......
Or maybe....
"Ah, screw this!" I mutter, angry at wool gathering at a stupid time
like this!
Only one thing that I know will stop the pixie and bring him under control
before it's too late. After all, since I feel the bond of kinship that
I feel for my other "brothers" as they feel for me, their "sister"......I
know that it means that I know him just about as well as I know myself!
"OATHBREAKER!!!!" I scream after the rapidly retreating pixie,
" IS YOUR WORD WORTH NOTHING?! HONORLESS DOG!!"
The others stop and stare at what happens next. Oh, they are had been
surprised enough to hear how loud of voice I can have when I try, but what
makes their jaw drop is the fact that it seems to break through where as
everything else didn't. The pixie had apparently got distracted by what
I said, for he' clipped a tree and skidded to a halt.
The other blink and look at each other, suddenly understanding just
what I'd done to stop Fred the pixie so effectively.
"What the Hell?" he asks in a wavering voice as he picks himself slowly
off the floor of the jungle, dazed but unhurt. "What happened?"
I pause for a half second as I watch the pixie's eyes change from slit
pupiled (like a cat's) back to the round, more human kind.
Eery, but this whole business has been that...... But all the same it's
just one more worry. Put it aside, Joan and concentrate on what you can
help....and pray to God it's enough!
"You lost yourself for a moment and I just got your attention.....so
you are back now," I say vaguely, not bothering to clarify.
My life, like my pixie "brother's" life, revolves around honor....and
we both take great pride in it.....and I knew that by calling into question
his honor would do the trick.
Fred takes on a horrified expression as it dawns on him what had happened
(his loss of control and what could have happened) and begins to wail an
apology.....only that there is no time....that and it's not his fault.
He's been doing an incredible job as it has been.
I explain as much to him (quickly) to stop him and to find out more
of what this "Unseelie Hunt" is all about.
"Wha....oh," he blinks, composing himself, "It's Belinda....her Unseelie
nature is in control and she's hunting a fellow Seeelie....er.....a Seelie
fairy of some type!! We've got to stop her or....."

I mutter
a curse that would have done me proud back when I was a man as we all get
on the dragon mage's back and take off in the direction that Fred points.
