"All this and we were just waiting around to help Queen Astra and
the Gunslinger get to their next destination safe and sound," Morganna
sighs as she finishes up her magical examination.
"Morg.....is it....?" Rugen asks, worried.
"It is," his wife (a different species of elf than Rugen) sighs, "Only
seen it a half dozen times before, but....."
"We lost good and true friends the first few times," Rugen explains
to the others, "They turned insane and then into ravening monsters....."
"But there is more pressing concern.....and it's with the way the curse
is reacting to all this magic in the air!" Morganna cuts in, causing Rugen
to look back (and up....since she's as tall as a human) at Morganna.
"It's.....accelerating it," Rugen says, looking sad, "How long? A few
days?"
Morganna nods, sadly.
"I must take a leave of you.....see if I can stop this before it goes
too far," the elfin woman says softly, "She'll stay asleep.....to slow
the curse as much as possible with all the other things that'll be done......Failing
that......I shall do what needs to be done...."
Morganna means to do what she can save Astra, or failing that.....her
strike with her short sword will be swift and painless....
They do not know of the Altantian co-ordinate system that Jarlath have,
the Crystallics that Synizn has, nor the magical teleport system that Dr.
Vincent has to help in a hunt that the elves aren't aware of. All they
know is what Astra told them, and Astra didn't know the whole details about
the rescuers and such......
Might have helped......
Might have stopped....whatever caused those other accursed non-Champions
from yelping in surprise as.....they feel something twang through their
being.....
Something that won't be exactly known until Jarlath's group finally
reaches Rifts Earth. See, that world is the LAST on their list of Altantian
co-ordinates AND the magical books keeping tabs on those non-Champions
(as well as the other Freds and Astras) "conked out" soon after the demise
of the nameless Book!
