| "Is anybody here a midwife, by any chance?" groaned Astra 5b.
The crowded area seemed almost not to hear the woman, their faces all
had looks of consternation, bewilderment, fear, awe, and curiosity.
The Manfox and the Shefoxes were busy inspecting the area, using eyes,
ears, hands, and nostrils to uncover something –anything- that could be
used to their advantage.
Thelma 2 and Joan 2 seemed lost in some inner troubles while Annafrid
2, Jarlath 2 and Andrea 3 were attempting some kind of magical synthesis.
It was Fred 5b and his sister Rowena 3 who went first to her, followed
almost instantly by Astra 9a. "Aaaaaaigh!" screamed Astra 5b. This got
everyone's
attention. Unfortunately everyone seemed to react identically... The two
Fred's in the group tried to gather the pregnant woman's spirits while
the She-foxes, Thelma, Annafrid and Joan tried to mother her, Astra 9a
whispered some Aqualarian proverb in Astra 5b's ear, while Rowena 3 regained
enough of her self-consciousness and embarrassment at having no clothes
that she tried to hide away in the corner. Jarlath 2 and Andrea 3 were
the only two to keep back. They whispered amongst themselves and shortly
nodded their heads.
"Alright everyone," said Jarlath 2. No one paid him any heed.
"QUIET!" yelled Andrea 3. And they did!
"Thank you," said Jarlath to Andrea. "Now then, Annafrid will pull while
Joan comforts, and Andrea and I will aid with some magical protections.
Any questions?"
Unfortunately the whole room exploded with questions and clarifications
and doubts, even while poor Astra 5b continued her groaning and began a
series of abrupt heaves and sighs. Jarlath tried to control the babble,
tone down the voices, but to no avail.
"SHUT UP!" yelled Andrea 3. And they did!
"Thanks again," said Jarlath a bit perplexed by his lack of authority.
"No problem," she whispered back. Jarlath was about to speak again when
Astra 5b screamed, "My baby's coming!!!"

there were others who were traveling within the pyramid looking for the
source of the screams and groans
