| Elsewhere in the pyramid, things are rather more peaceful. There
are seven more Freds and seven Astras [11390], two sets of whom - together
with a Belinda [12107] - are currently in the library. They have been startled
to hear the start reciting dirty limericks [14830] when it got temporarily
scrambled from its bungled teleportation effort.
Before they can determine precisely which book is responsible, though,
they hear almost simultaneous loud groans coming from two different directions.
In the Room where Demifox Astra is giving birth.....
"I don't suppose any of you happens to have any training in midwifery?"
she asks.
"I....helped deliver my younger brother, David" Fred chattered, throwing
aside his surprise at meeting these odd people (who have the features of
foxes and humans on them....as well as the male looking like him.....sort
of).
"That'll do," Demifox Fred.
Though he wonders just why this man looks similar to himself, before
that midnight tryst with his Astra (he uses the word his
since the naked woman that came along with this other man looks just like
Astra did, before.....).
Neither side fears for their safety for the other. Demifox Fred's world
has no knowledge, myths, or legends of dopplegangers and the other Fred's
world has no knowledge of the curse called lycanthropy. This was good for
the former and later could have caused needless problems.
Oh, each side has reservations about the others but right now Demifox
Astra was in need of assistance.
While Demifox Astra started bearing down to deliver her first kit that
is when several other pyramid inhabitants decide to investigate the source
of the groaning.....
