"Come in," the elderly man says softly, "The....samples are in my
laboratory."
The eccentric mage/scientist leads in the dragon mages and others into
his tower, and then waves away Bobo and several of his brothers and sisters
who seem to be looking at several of the newcomers with a LOT of trepidation,
since they can tell what they are, despite appearances. Point in
fact, Doctor Vincent's creations shared similar (if much cruder) feature
of some of the senses that the Military Avatar Units have. So, point in
fact, they know very well that at least some of these people are more than
they seem. Much more than they care to even consider "playing with" as
Bobo had with Fred.
"Here they are," Vincent says.
They were spread across a large wooden table, the dragon remains of
the female dragon Malachi and the male dragon Minestus. Some of the items
were in jars, preserved in brine. Some were under various magical/scientific
apparatus. One sample in particular, a cross section of dragon frontal
lobe of Minestus, was still under magnification. Numerous scribbled notes
on a ledger next to the sample (by their look were rather excited).
If Jarlath didn't miss his guess (which is based off of past experience
with his own Doctor Vincent), this Vincent had been so engrossed
in discovering new and interesting things about full grown dragon's brain
that he had entirely missed a flock of dragons landing at his front door!
Frankly, Vincent could be very "Magoo" (a slang term imported from the
Military and had become very popular on Terra Prime....a slang term basically
meaning "blind") at times when caught up in the thrill of discovery.
Right now, Vincent looked rather.....green around the gills. That, and
ashamed now at what had been, up until a moment ago, a pure pleasure of
discovery.
The dragon mages look at the mortal remains, then over at the others.
Finally, Synizn speaks.
"I must admit, I've never thought I'd ever have to face such as this,"
he says quietly, "And, Tiamat's blood, I must admit I never really expected
to arrive at this situation....under these circumstances.
"A noble set of human beings and a spell components gatherer who I'm
not ready to burn to a crisp," the dragon mage sighs.
The facts spoke for themselves. The Champions had the distinct honor
of belonging to a Dragon Circle. That humans could belong had been thought
impossible by most dragons. Humans were seen by most as either vermin,
or children forever in need of guidance and protection (Synizn had belonged
to the later category). Now? Synizn and the others weren't so sure......
As for the "gatherer".....the dragon's could practically feel the feelings
of disgust and remorse coming from Vincent. Vincent could see beyond a
doubt after actually dealing with these dragon mages (one on one instead
of in battle) that.....there was something very noble and very.....much
of deserving respect and honor as people (vice as raving monsters).
"I wouldn't blame you," Vincent whispers.
"Ah, but that wouldn't be right, now would it." Andrea says into the
silence.
Various dragon mages look like they have different opinions on that,
but one glare from Synizn silences them before they can word their objections.
"But the question remains on how to proceed," Lord Fred finally said,
awash with his own thoughts (and fears at what until recently what he thought
had been grand acts of right....had been wrong.....terribly wrong).
"The fact remains that we shall honor Malachi's remains with a proper
religious cremation," Ebonwing says softly, "That we shall do in good time.
I don't care if you piss on Minestus' remains before we destroy them! But
we still have quiet the problem here."
She like the others of this Circle had a LOW opinion about Minestus.....
-
"Fred, according
to Joan, shall soon forevermore leave this world," Synizn begins, pulling
out a bottle with a clear blue liquid in it.
