I decide not to question Mr. Thumb. After all, this sounds like a pretty
good deal to me. Maybe this is how college recruiting works
nowadays. "Basketball was always my true favorite sport," I tell Tim.
"That's great," he replies with a grin. "We'll get you on our team right away." Idly wondering which college this actually is, I follow Tim down another hallway. Soon I can hear basketballs bouncing; one of my favorite sounds. "The gym is down this way," Tim says, gesturing down a hall to his right. Man, this place has a lot of hallways. "But first, you can change in here. You'll find a locker already with your name on it." Woah, cool. I enter the change room and find my locker. Shaun Malcolm, in bright blue letters. There's a practice jersey, two game jerseys, several pairs of shorts, socks, even a brand new pair of shoes in my size. This is sweet. I glance at some of the other names on the lockers. Ken Heitz. Mike Warren. Lew Alcindor. Jim Nielsen. Hmmm.
