I feel terrible about Julia, and about the other prisoners who will now
probably be denied a chance to escape. But I'm not the heroic type, and
anyway by the time I could find the sperm bank surely the doctors would
already have got to her. On the other hand, what chance do I have of
escaping without this Julia's help?
Somewhat to my surprise, I change my mind and decide to try to warn her. Cautiously I open the door a few inches and peer out. The corridor is deserted. Before I depart to look for Julia, I examine the contents of the cupboard to see if thee is anything that might be useful. It is obviously the janitor's closet that was referred to in the note. The bucket and mop tell me that. Unfortunately the doctor hadn't read out the part of the note that would have told me what to do. There are also various containers that probably hold cleaning preparations, but I can't read their labels as they aren't in English or even in the Latin alphabet. (I briefly reflect that it's odd that I could understand the doctors when they were talking to one another outside the closet, and so surely wouldn't have been using English apart from when reading out the note, but I can't spare the time to worry about that now.)
