“I don’t know where to begin. And I don’t think you’re going to believe me when I tell you.”
“You would be surprised.” He takes a long sip of his ale and stares firmly at her. “I’ve traveled this country for many years now, playing music, working odd jobs, and just trying to scrape by. I don’t think there is a creature in this land that I haven’t met. I’ve met the kindest souls in this entire world, the most wicked beings to walk this earth, and everything in between. If they’ve taught me anything, it’s that there are still many strange things out there to discover. You are afraid I won’t believe you? I’m not sure you are going to believe me! But I assure you that every word of it is true. May the gods strike me down if I am lying.” He takes another sip of his ale and continues. “And of all the creatures I’ve met, you are one of the strangest. You walk differently, you talk differently, and you certainly dance differently. You are the unlike any elf I’ve ever met, and I am dying to know more about you. So try me.”“I suppose given the circumstances, my story might not seem as strange as it seems. Alright.” She takes a big gulp of wine and begins. “I’m not from this world.” She tells him everything, of her job at the mall, to the kid biting her face, to the exploding flowers, to waking up naked in the cold, all the way to hitching a ride to the city. Roger never interrupts or makes any sort of gesture of disbelief. He just listens. When she was finally finishes speaking, she says “You say you’re used to hearing strange stories. What do you think of mine?”
