Fortunately the three officers that show up are friendly to the cause.
They had reason to believe that powerful non-humans were being blackmailed
with threats of teleportation. There was Xorn, Triffid the Plant Manager,
a loading dock veteran named Chewbacca (no relation to the Trademarked
Legend), Ebol the Camera and the heads of two maintenince guilds
(liteally, the heads were never found). All aliens that helped run the
Starbase. All dead now, in ways that absolutely looked like accidents.
That is, if you hadn't seen the 'porting records. And those were on print.
In a room marked 'Do not enter'. If it hadn't been for the half-senile cleaning lady with an ancient skeleton key, none of the three decent cops wouldn't have had a chance to peek inside and see what is what. Proof positive factions in the cop department are looking to control the base. It's all quite horrible and everyone passes around a bottle of Stimuhol before continuing. You mention the paper records. Vital clues. No go, said the tallest cop through one of the openings in his head. Since computer records can be hacked, all the important stuff is stored on paper. At great expense, paper sensors are at vital choke points in the secure sections of the base.
