Jacques was understandably flustered.
"Answering machine?"
"Sorry!" Strank said, on edge himself. "Look, she gave me the administrator code to the machine in case of emergencies and I quadruple confirmed she left the new machine reply after all this murdering happened! She wasn't part of this! She wasn't."
"Okay, okay." said Jacques. "Look, I'm sorry I yelled at you. Can you use the phone you um, used, to call for help?"
"Sorry, power ran out right after. No adapter in this place."
"What?" said a nearby man with a patchy beard and torn jeans. "You used the last of the power to check on friends before calling the military?"
The Texan turned. "Well, excuse me for for verifying the health and safety of two kids who hug me whenever they see me! Fuck off!"

  1. One of the survivors found an adapter and power was restored to the phone.
  2. Jacques and Strank decided to make a run for the main house and press the silent alarm.
  3. Strank lets out a rank stress-related fart.
  4. Torn jeans man complains some more and Strank kicks him where the jeans meet.
