You wake from a troubled sleep, and with a shock realise that you have total amnesia - you have no idea who you are. The room you are in resembles a monk's cell in its lack of comfort. It is minimally furnished apart from the cot on which you lie, has walls made of large blocks of stone and a wooden floor. There is a fireplace, but it is empty and the room is distinctly chilly.
You open the heavy wooden door of your room. The door gives onto a stone staircase. You notice that in each direction there is a small representation of a human figure attached to the wall, reminiscent of those found on restroom doors but more detailed. That in the up direction is obviously male, whilst that in the down direction is clearly female. You have the feeling that your choice of direction now will decide your whole future. But before you can step out of your room and onto the staircase, there is a grinding noise from behind you. Turning, you see that an elevator door is inset in the wall, where you are sure there was no door before. The door slides open, and a man and two women emerge.
